Following are some common questions about accessing and using the Therapeutic Guidelines. Click on the title to see the response to the question.

Unable to log in on the TG website

If you go to the Therapeutic Guidelines website https://www.tg.org.au/ or https://app.tg.org.au/ and click the LogIn button there is no Australian Dental Association (institutional) login option. You need to use the Therapeutic Guidelines ADA access link.

Log in request to Find my institution

OpenAthens is part of the authentication process which allows ADA Ltd financial members access to some ADA services and subscriptions, including the Therapeutic Guidelines and the National Digital Library.

If you get an OpenAthens request to Find your institution, it means you haven't logged in previously to OpenAthens, or it has been a while since logging into OpenAthens, or you're browsing incognito, in-private or on a new device. 

If you get the OpenAthens Find your institution:

  1. Accept cookies
  2. In the Find your institution box, type Australian
  3. Select Australian Dental Association Ltd from the list

Mobile app

You can access Therapeutic Guidelines either through a web browser on your mobile device (follow instructions for online access) or you can download and use the mobile web app.

Print version of Therapeutic Guidelines

ADA Ltd financial members will receive a printed copy of version 4 of the Therapeutic Guidelines Oral and Dental (also known as the Clown Book). The book will be available from around March 2026 and will be the last printed version. All future versions will only be available online.

Updates and changes to Therapeutic Guidelines

All topics of the online version of the Therapeutic Guidelines are reviewed and updated on a regular basis.

To keep current on content updates, go to the Updates page on the TG website which includes the latest and past updates. On this page you can enter your preferred email address and subscribe to receive news and product updates by email.

For an update on the changes from version 3 to version 4 of the Therapeutic Guidelines Oral and Dental:

  • Read Therapeutic Guidelines Oral and Dental September 2025 Updates.
  • Watch the (CPD) video recording of a symposium held at the Australian Dental Congress in Perth, May 2025 featuring dental practitioners A/Prof Sue-Ching Yeoh, A/Prof Mathew Lim, Prof Ivan Darby and Dr Steven Parker who were involved in updating Therapeutic Guidelines Oral and Dental.

Therapeutic Guideline topics

Once you're logged in to the Therapeutic Guidelines, you not only have access to the Oral and Dental guideline - you can also access all 21 guidelines which cover more than 2,500 clinical topics and over 5,000 drug recommendations.

Printing

There isn't the option to print the complete contents of a Guideline. You can print a topic within a Guideline or a section within a topic.

Printing a topic

Once logged in to Therapeutic Guidelines, click on a Guideline then the topic you are interested in and select the Print Topic

button.

To print a topic within a guideline click on guideline, then click on topic and select print topic

Printing a section within a topic

Once logged in to Therapeutic Guidelines, click on a Guideline, then the topic you are interested in, then select the section you want to print.

Select Guideline, select topic, select section, click on print section option

 

Searching Therapeutic Guidelines from the National Digital Library

You can access the Therapeutic Guidelines through the National Digital Library (NDL). A link to the guideline is listed under Databases and a quick link is on the home and featured items pages of the NDL.

If you're searching for 'therapeutic guidelines' on the NDL, a link to the Therapeutic Guidelines will appear in a box on the search results page. Note: you cannot search the full text of the Guidelines through the NDL, you need to open the Therapeutic Guidelines online (or in the mobile app) to complete a search.
